Eastern Market :: burnt and gutted

This morning, on my bike into work, I stopped by Murky Coffee for a latte. . .the block was cordoned off by police and there were fire trucks and a large crowd a block down at the Market.  A fire broke out over night, and the Market has been burnt and gutted.  This is extremely sad news–the Market is an important part of my hood’s commerce and community interaction.

  1. i took the metro to work today but didn’t notice anything unusual, so i didn’t even know anything was wrong until i saw the story (and awful picture) in the washington post. i’m so sad!

  2. holy crap….that sucks big time!!! that building is soo cool!

  4. Maybe it can be restored…

  5. They are already working on it and vowed to remain open in some manner or the other until it is fully restored. . .

  6. i saw it in the post online yesterday…so sad. there was a great piece in the post today by Philip Kennicott. i’m glad to see that the city is committed to restoring it and recognizes its importance to the community.

  7. i’m so sorry, trey…it’s really hard for a community to lose something like this…especially when it is so hard for them to survive anyway…sad times.
